STATEMENT
"Making art is having a contract with an idea....Drawing, to me, is a meditative state where I enter a world of calm reflection and interpretation. Sometimes (often) the result is a surprise!" I have a passion for trees, they are heroes of the environment and I wish to honor them. My approach is to take a non-traditional look by bringing the viewer's focus up close to examine shadows and textures for an intimate visual experience. These are mostly drawn with graphite, some with an addition in colored pencil. The still life work is done mostly in colored pencil, some with the addition of a graphite element. Here I enjoy another artistic continuum but I like to bring the drawings into a contemporary format with the use of negative space and careful composition. Because I am very interested in other cultures I like to use various folk artifacts to make visual statements about diversity. Stones are another reoccurring theme in my work. I enjoy exploring their shapes and textures and, again, bringing the viewer up close for an intimate look at a segment of the landscape. These drawing are entirely done with colored pencil!"
